Maison Or & Bijoux was founded by Bertrand Mathieu, who has more than 25 years of experience with gold, coin collecting and the trade in precious metals. #### At a glance **Free, no-obligation valuation**, carried out in front of you. **Payment by bank transfer** (including instant transfer) **or cheque – never in cash**, as required by French law. Please bring a valid **passport or national ID card**. After signing, you have **48 hours to change your mind** (except for investment gold). ## What we *buy* ##### Gold jewellery & scrap gold Rings, wedding bands, chains, bracelets, pendants, earrings – even broken or single pieces. Yellow, white and rose gold, 9 ct to 24 ct. ##### Dental gold Crowns, bridges and inlays containing gold. Purity is tested on site. ##### Gold coins French 20 francs (Napoléon, Marianne), Swiss Vreneli, Sovereigns, Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, Philharmonics and collector coins. ##### Gold bars From 1 gram to 1 kilogram, with or without certificate. ##### Silver Silver cutlery, jewellery, coins and bars. ##### Watches & diamonds Watches from well-known makers and diamond jewellery. We work with gemmologists to assess diamonds. ## How it *works* 1 #### Walk in No appointment needed during opening hours. For large quantities or an estate, call us first. 2 #### Testing in front of you We test the purity on a touchstone and weigh your items on a certified scale. You see every step. 3 #### Written offer The price is **weight × purity × today's gold price**, minus our margin, which we state before any agreement. You are under no obligation to accept. 4 #### Contract & payment If you accept, you receive a written sales contract. Payment is made by bank transfer or cheque – never in cash. ## Selling gold in France: *what to know* ### No cash payments French law only allows dealers to pay private sellers for precious metals by bank transfer or cheque, whatever the amount (Article L112-6 of the Monetary and Financial Code). We can transfer to a foreign bank account via SEPA; please bring your IBAN. ### 48-hour cooling-off period You can cancel the sale within 48 hours of signing (Article L224-99 of the Consumer Code): you return the amount received and get your items back. Payment can still be made straight away. This right does not apply to **investment gold**, which covers bars and most bullion coins such as the 20 francs Napoléon. ### French tax on precious metals A French flat-rate tax on precious metals may apply. Sales of up to €5,000 are exempt. Above that, we withhold the tax and pay it to the French tax authorities, so you have nothing to declare in France. The amount appears on your written offer before you sign. Tax rules in your home country are your own responsibility; ask a tax adviser if in doubt. ### Documents A valid passport or national ID card is required: French dealers must record the seller's details for every purchase. ## Free *valuation* Just want to know what your jewellery, coins or an inherited piece is worth? Valuations are free and carry no obligation. For items with collector or market value (rare coins, branded watches, jewellery with stones), we take that value into account as well as the metal content. ## Buying gold *and silver* We also sell investment gold and silver (bars and coins) and jewellery, priced on the day's rate.
